I realize the last poem was not good. At all.... It happens, and more often on sick days, but you get that when you do 365 in a year. I feel like i tried harder in this one
Squint to see
In the dark or in the light
Somewhere in the middle of
Nightfall and day light
Find the moment
When your skin fits right
After hot flashes
But before frost bite
For a moment stop breathing
Between inhale and ex
When the heart contracts
But before it can relax
In the middle ground
Time stands still
Compose your self in the moment
So your soul can refill
or maybe i didn't do any better....

Day 63: Gasoline Conspiracy
Sick today, so i watched Green TV all day
I had no idea there were so many amazing things people had discovered.
Gasoline Conspiracy
A motorbike running on compressed air
A home heated by microbes
A car that runs on burning wood
A hostel powered by a stream
A boat run on batteries
Fantasies?
No
Eclipsed by
Exxon Mobil
And Iraq.
Common knowledge if you know where to look
Ideas waiting to be sown
To start the revolution.

Day 62: One phone call changes everything
So I had a small quatrain written for today but I just got a phone call and this old poem seems a bit more appropriate for tonight.
I’m crushed. A puddle of pain.
I have never felt more alone in my life.
Days pass by.
Nothing changes. My existence is cyclic.
Wake up, get coffee, get food, run out the door.
Take notes, read papers, repeat.
Come back to my box.
Get ready to do the same damn thing tomorrow.
I mean nothing. A superfluous cog in a useless machine.
But one phone call changes everything.
“Hi baby, I was just thinking about you….”
My days are full of light and energy
Everything is a new and exciting challenge
Nothing can beat me.
I am the master of my fate.
The strings of time run through my muscles.
I flex and the earth shakes
I stretch and the universe expands.
Nothing can bring me down.
But one phone call changes everything.
“Your brother tested positive….”
I’m crushed. A puddle of pain…………

Day 61: Give me a reason
Show me something beautiful
The mending of a broken heart
The uncoiling of a crippled conscience
The healing of emotive scars
Give me reason to believe
My assurance is wearing thin
Pick me back up; breathe new life
And let me live again
The mending of a broken heart
The uncoiling of a crippled conscience
The healing of emotive scars
Give me reason to believe
My assurance is wearing thin
Pick me back up; breathe new life
And let me live again

Day 60: Heavy Thoughts
Heavy Thoughts
This bubble of granite
Suspended above my head
By the clenching of the muscles
Between my shoulders and neck
Weighs heavy on my conscience
Unbearable
But unable to let go
This bubble of granite
Suspended above my head
By the clenching of the muscles
Between my shoulders and neck
Weighs heavy on my conscience
Unbearable
But unable to let go
Day 59: I Run
Sorry this is late. These vacation days are killing me with all the driving and drinking (not combined) Here's a poem I pulled out of the vault.
I’m so tired of being on the verge
Of something amazing
Saving nothing in the tank
I leave it all on the pavement
Trying to find out where my life went
And the day that it left
I haven’t been alive
But I never met death
I suspect he didn’t want me
Because I wasn’t much use
And life was always just too tough
To strap on running shoes
But today I’ve had enough.
Today the waiting’s done
There’s nothing left for me here
So I run.
I run
'Till the sun
Burns me up
Turns me out
'Till there’s nothing left
But my breath
And I Run
And I Run
And I Run
I’m so tired of being on the verge
Of something amazing
Saving nothing in the tank
I leave it all on the pavement
Trying to find out where my life went
And the day that it left
I haven’t been alive
But I never met death
I suspect he didn’t want me
Because I wasn’t much use
And life was always just too tough
To strap on running shoes
But today I’ve had enough.
Today the waiting’s done
There’s nothing left for me here
So I run.
I run
'Till the sun
Burns me up
Turns me out
'Till there’s nothing left
But my breath
And I Run
And I Run
And I Run

Day 58: Crazy Game of Poker
Hey this post is late too because of Christmas and driving and a night full of poker and drinking.
I'm going all in
Put my life on the line
Play the hand I was dealt
Without batting an eye
Won't fold under pressure
I stand cold as granite
With a 100 yard stare
Seeing through every gambit
Here comes the pay off
But the river ran dry
His hand full of hearts
Beat my three of a kind...
I'm going all in
Put my life on the line
Play the hand I was dealt
Without batting an eye
Won't fold under pressure
I stand cold as granite
With a 100 yard stare
Seeing through every gambit

Day 57: Santa's Journey
Swimming in a sea of red
Snow blows bitter against his head
Beard is crusted in thick ice
Tonight he finds out who's been naughty
And who's been nice
Battling the bitter cold
Bags of gifts and bags of coal
Reindeer fly throughout the night
Guided by the bright red nose
Their guiding light
Sliding down the chimney tube
Milk and cookies for his food
Placing gifts under the trees
He flies away now that his mission
Has been achieved
Back at his frozen north pole home
He down's eggnog and then he bones
His horny wife she wants it bad
And Santa gets the greatest gift
He's ever had.
I wrote this and can't stand that i wrote a christmas poem...... but tis the season.....

Day 56: Don't Dare Test Me
Hey sorry it's late, worked all day and drove all night. Sittin here in cleveland tryin to catch up
Sick with the rhythm
I'm spitting the venom
Lining up women
They stand at attention
It's my new invention
What everyone mentions
I'm twisting intentions
And breaking conventions
And maybe you'll see
That I'm totally fearless
Unable to bend
At the knees- I stand peerless
Just like a king
With my words I'ma seal this
By royal decree 'till wax
Cracks and releases
Words melted from vinyl
Two platters that spin
Forming break beat barrages
I'm going all in
I throw the first stone
Cause I know that I'll win
And no one will ever
Dare test me again
Sick with the rhythm
I'm spitting the venom

Day 55: Life is a Top
Life is a top
In a delicate dance
Spinning round and round
It wobbles and waves
Feigning to fall
Spinning round and round
Staying fluid in movements
Graceful, chaotic
Spinning round and round
Until time is up
Gravity wins
The dance was started
With intention to end
The dance isn't beautiful
If it won't fight the fall
Spinning round and round
In a delicate dance
Spinning round and round
It wobbles and waves
Feigning to fall
Spinning round and round
Staying fluid in movements
Graceful, chaotic
Spinning round and round

Day 54: Lost and Found
Lost and Found
Show me something I can see in crystal clarity
Searching through the smoke so long has started scaring me
Take my hand and a fan and chase away the wraiths
Light a candle. Strike a match. Warm me with the flame.
Extract a map from your back pack and chart our way back home
Read the compass and the stars and point the route they've shown
Speak words of comfort, giving strength, causing fear to melt
Fill the darkness in this heart with love it's never felt
So we take determined steps towards the long night's end
And one day soon I trust that we will see the sun again
Show me something I can see in crystal clarity
Searching through the smoke so long has started scaring me
Take my hand and a fan and chase away the wraiths

Day 53: Stay Fluid
Too tired to look
Life in the eye
While falling to the earth
As the flock flies by
Didn't stay fluid
Enough to float
That rigid rigor mortis
Kept the fingers on the throat
Life's an air current
Learn to float like a balloon
And the winds will knock
But won't stop
Your rise to the moon.
Life in the eye
While falling to the earth
As the flock flies by
Didn't stay fluid
Enough to float
That rigid rigor mortis
Kept the fingers on the throat

Day 52: The Clock Struck Who?
When the clock struck 1
1 struck him back
Twisted the hour hand to land
On the clock's face with a slap
He said, "Take that"
Don't ever touch me again
Or the next time that I slap
I won’t' be using a hand
So the clock moved on
And struck the 2
And the 2 walked away
With an ego badly bruised
But the clock moved on
Never missing a step
As time continued running
Never looking back
1 struck him back
Twisted the hour hand to land
On the clock's face with a slap
He said, "Take that"
Don't ever touch me again
Or the next time that I slap
I won’t' be using a hand

Day 51: Hold Me Back
Fifty days. I did not think that it would be this tough to write a poem every day. I know some of them have sucked, 4 lines of inspiration is tough on a fast day. I'm real glad I've been able to make it this far and hope i keep it up to day 365.
So for day 50, since it's a milestone, i decided to kick it old school where i first learned to rhyme with my brother.
Hold me back, Hold me back
I'm comin on the attack
My verboseness is ferocious
So you better watch your back
I'm pickin up the slack
That other rappers pack
My tracks will leave you breathless
Like an asthma attack
I'm spittin golden lyrics
Blessin those who hear it
A messianic M C
Approachin battle, fearless
Completely peerless
Unable to back down
Moved from deep within
By the boom bap sound

Day 50: Dreaming of Italy
I want to run away
I want to live in peace
I want to drive a boat
On watery Venetian streets
I want to grow a garden
Full of Basil and oregano
Eggplants and artichokes
San Marzano tomatoes
I want to feel the day
Savor passing time
Take all evening for dinner
Full of bread and wine
I want a rustic home
With terracotta tiles
A small but open layout
That's withstood life's harried trials
I dream of this place
While I read the morning news
Because I'm far from Italy
And stuck in Syracuse
I want to live in peace
I want to drive a boat
On watery Venetian streets
I want to grow a garden
Full of Basil and oregano
Eggplants and artichokes
San Marzano tomatoes

Day 49: Reflection I
On this reflective surface
My self deception becomes worthless
And I know you can see right through me
So maybe you can hear
The sound of ever tear
That fell from heaven the day I cut you free
My self deception becomes worthless
And I know you can see right through me
So maybe you can hear
The sound of ever tear
That fell from heaven the day I cut you free
Day 48: Forgive Me
Prayer/Poem. Having another rough week..... I feel like I've posted that a lot. Maybe every day is a rough week.
Forgive me
Lord I am a man
Of earth and dust
Soot and Ash
Flesh given voice and thought
Reason and feeling.
A mottled reflection of your perfect name
Though full of sin
I stand in your blameless presence.
You have given me breath
For purposes you deemed fit
When I was fit only for death.
Heaven fall on me now
Let the ash I am composed of
Mix with tears from your broken heart
And create Lye
To bleach these bones
A clean slate for you to build
The man you want me to be.
Remake me from my frame
Like the phoenix from the flame
Let my down fall be the beginning
Of something beautiful
Forgive me
Lord I am a man
Of earth and dust
Soot and Ash
Flesh given voice and thought
Reason and feeling.
A mottled reflection of your perfect name
Though full of sin
I stand in your blameless presence.
You have given me breath

Day 47: Masks
The masks that we wear
Are ready to tear
From the use and abuse that they field
When the smiles we fake
Are beginning to break
And the cracks create rifts in our shields
Are ready to tear
From the use and abuse that they field
When the smiles we fake
Are beginning to break
And the cracks create rifts in our shields

Day 46: A Moment to Collect Myself
Sometimes I need a moment to collect myself
Clear my mind
Untwist my spine
Feel my center settle
Forcing stars to re align
Exhale and let slide
The sands of slipping time
Trickle down my back
So I relax and unwind
So I relax and feel fine
So I relax
When I come back
The world is fresh
Through my eyes
Clear my mind
Untwist my spine
Feel my center settle
Forcing stars to re align
Exhale and let slide
The sands of slipping time
Trickle down my back
So I relax and unwind
So I relax and feel fine
So I relax
When I come back
The world is fresh
Through my eyes

Day 45: Some Really Fly Flannel
I went to an outdoors store where there's boots and snowshoes and flannel, which evidently are staples for life in Syracuse. I bought a 5 dollar flannel shirt and it is ridiculously warm! But I look like a prepubescent lumber jack.... So I decided to write a poem about it.
Some real fly flannel
I've found I'm fond of flannel
And I'm sure you'd never guess
That out of all the fabrics
I've tried on, it fits the best.
Like a limber lumber jack
It lets me move so free
In case I ever need to dodge
The falling of a tree.
The cotton cuts off cold
From reaching hairy skin
As I trek the frozen tundra
Above the arctic ring.
But I've never trekked the arctic
And I've never felled a tree
But in my flashy flannel
My imagination can run free.
Some real fly flannel
I've found I'm fond of flannel
And I'm sure you'd never guess
That out of all the fabrics
I've tried on, it fits the best.

Day 44: Living in the Shadows
Living in the shadows
I stopped below an overpass
One snowy December day
A meteor shower
In bullet time
Dancing, swirling flakes.
There I was
Cast in the shadow
That blocked reality
That shone on either side
A membranous divide
Surrounding me
Once removed
I could breathe
But knew I couldn't bide
Hiding in this moment
My heart ached
To be outside
Standing in the shadows
May rest your weary soul
But the heart cannot be fooled
And the snow will always sing
To tell you you aren't whole
I stopped below an overpass
One snowy December day
A meteor shower
In bullet time
Dancing, swirling flakes.
There I was
Cast in the shadow
That blocked reality
That shone on either side
A membranous divide
Surrounding me

Day 43: Wind
Wind.
Wind wind
Blowing again
Why do you knock
So hard to get in?
Would you stay and chat
If I let you inside?
Or would you leave through the window
To knock one more time?
Maybe your lonely
But can't settle down
With the fear of commitment
Furling your brow.
Maybe your noisy
Maybe your a dick
Maybe you live to play
Mean little tricks.
But you never speak
Or say what you feel
So again we will spin
Around life's little wheel
Wind wind
Blowing again
Come in and lets talk
And maybe one day
We could be friends.
Wind wind
Blowing again
Why do you knock
So hard to get in?
Would you stay and chat

Day 42: Catch Your Breath
Inhale
Hold in oxygen
Let it capture all the radicals
The impurities and the carbon
Exhale
Breathe the bad air out
Expel nightmares and anxieties
That spin your world about
Close your eyes
Quieting the light
Center yourself and rest assured
Everything will be all right
Open them again
Drink the colors fresh
Until your thirst is quenched
Until you catch your breath
Hold in oxygen
Let it capture all the radicals
The impurities and the carbon
Exhale
Breathe the bad air out
Expel nightmares and anxieties
That spin your world about
Close your eyes
Quieting the light
Center yourself and rest assured
Everything will be all right
Open them again
Drink the colors fresh
Until your thirst is quenched
Until you catch your breath

Day 41: Life's about Unlearning
Reality is the unraveling
Of everything that is real
It's the understanding that sometimes
The truth is what you feel
And sometimes it's the logic
Of philosophers and math
And sometimes it's the understanding
That there is no correct path
Like a flowers slow unfurling
Or the rising of the sun
Life's about unlearning
What's taught to everyone.
Of everything that is real
It's the understanding that sometimes
The truth is what you feel
And sometimes it's the logic
Of philosophers and math
And sometimes it's the understanding
That there is no correct path
Like a flowers slow unfurling
Or the rising of the sun
Life's about unlearning
What's taught to everyone.

Day 40: Expressions
Expressions
I pulled up to the ATM
But forget my pin
I withdrew a blank
I didn't see the bridge
As the road rose higher on the ridge
So I flew the coupe
I decided not to pay
Because the baker made me wait
So I took the cake
I pulled up to the ATM
But forget my pin
I withdrew a blank
I didn't see the bridge
As the road rose higher on the ridge
So I flew the coupe
I decided not to pay
Because the baker made me wait
So I took the cake

Day 39: Freinds at the Bar
Clink Clink
Glug Glug sigh
To everything we've missed
While time passed us by
The blur of weddings,
Family's, kids.
Pass by like pictures
On 35 mm strips.
But here at this table
Good beers in hand
We act as if this
Is where time chose to stand
Frozen in it's footsteps
Unable to move
As we sit around the table
And the world starts to swoon
Everything disappears
Except for us 4
Friends for a life time
Friends forever more.
Troy was a blast!
Glug Glug sigh
To everything we've missed
While time passed us by
The blur of weddings,
Family's, kids.
Pass by like pictures

Day 38: Tomorrow
Sorry that these last two day posts are A) late and B) things I wrote a bit ago. I'm back in troy hanging with Tony Furtado and Caroline Kim and Phil Thompson and Mike Notely, and they have me a super fun time. They are responsible for my unoriginality in poems. it happens when you drink and laugh and freestyle all night and play raquetball and watch elf all day..... AWESOME!
Tomorrow
Every night I fear
The coming of the day
The stresses held in store
Crush me under their weight
I’m not ready to take
Responsibility
I want to bask in night’s
Quiet tranquility
But each stolen moment
Comes with a price to pay
Putting off tomorrow
Holding to yesterday
Makes stress reality
When all I really need
Is to slip into bed
And fall into deep sleep
Tomorrow
Every night I fear
The coming of the day
The stresses held in store
Crush me under their weight
I’m not ready to take
Responsibility
I want to bask in night’s
Quiet tranquility
But each stolen moment
Comes with a price to pay
Putting off tomorrow
Holding to yesterday
Makes stress reality
When all I really need
Is to slip into bed
And fall into deep sleep
Day 37: Run On
The beginning of a poem called run on......
Soul is stretched surpassing limits. Seriously, I’ll crack.
Crack kills while mortuary’s fill every coffin with the ash.
Ash fallen and crest faced I’ve slipped into the back.
Back pack full of power, black powder packed in gats.
Soul is stretched surpassing limits. Seriously, I’ll crack.
Crack kills while mortuary’s fill every coffin with the ash.
Ash fallen and crest faced I’ve slipped into the back.
Back pack full of power, black powder packed in gats.

Day 36: Peace in Defeat
real quick free style about how well work went. haven't had a chance to really formulate thoughts lately.
It's over
But it hasn't yet begun
Because the fall out will still follow me
Everywhere I run
I exhale
A relieved sigh of defeat
The stagnant breath held in my chest
Is finally leaving me
Winded like a balloon
Inflated once then let free
The sweet relief of breath release
Leaves me shriveled cadaverously
There's no happy ending
But I close my eyes and smile
And fall between the rock and hard place
Weightless bliss
Before I hit
I'll relish every diving mile.
It's over
But it hasn't yet begun
Because the fall out will still follow me
Everywhere I run
I exhale
A relieved sigh of defeat
The stagnant breath held in my chest
Is finally leaving me

Day 35: Anorexadone
Hey, sorry it's late. This week in Cali was muderous.
This is the start of anorexadone. I might continute it in a day or two.
And so this woman bends her body
Into grotesque shapes
While she slowly wastes away
Becoming nothing but a wraith
A mere memory in a foggy cloud
That dissappears when the sun comes out
She says she's in control
And it's almost believable
Until you see into her family's eyes
And the scars that are untreatable
Watching your baby girl slowly die
But how is it control when you're compelled
To destroy yourself?
How is it control when you can't stop?
It's one binge replaced by another
Xylophone ribs for another slab of butter
This is the start of anorexadone. I might continute it in a day or two.
And so this woman bends her body
Into grotesque shapes
While she slowly wastes away
Becoming nothing but a wraith
A mere memory in a foggy cloud
That dissappears when the sun comes out
She says she's in control
And it's almost believable

To destroy yourself?
How is it control when you can't stop?
It's one binge replaced by another
Xylophone ribs for another slab of butter

Day 34: Worth the Trouble
I've been reading Grace (Eventually) by Anne Lamott and she's really reminded me of a few very important truths that humans seem to forget or never really find out.
I'd never have learned to ride a bike
If I'd never fought with gravity
If I'd never flipped over handlebars
If I'd never scraped my knees
You never learn to balance
If you never start to fall
And you never grow as a person
If you're carried through it all
There's a reason why our parents split
Why our loved ones die
Why our prayers seem unanswered
Why we feel alone at night
Because unless we struggle through
Unless we deal with pain
Our lives are hardly worth the trouble
God went through to create
I'd never have learned to ride a bike
If I'd never fought with gravity
If I'd never flipped over handlebars
If I'd never scraped my knees
You never learn to balance
If you never start to fall
And you never grow as a person
If you're carried through it all
There's a reason why our parents split
Why our loved ones die
Why our prayers seem unanswered
Why we feel alone at night
Because unless we struggle through

Day 33: Sleep Deprivation
Sorry it's late. I had it written but i've gotten like no sleep and worked through the night.
I'm so exhausted
Too tired to care
That I'm alone in my hotel room
And only I'm there
But I hear voices in the corner
Keeping me from sleep
So I lay in my bed
As the hours start to creep
And then they start to run
As they've built up speed
And soon the voices replace
The one I knew as me
I'm so exhausted
Too tired to care
That I'm alone in my hotel room
And only I'm there
But I hear voices in the corner
Keeping me from sleep
So I lay in my bed
As the hours start to creep
And then they start to run
As they've built up speed
And soon the voices replace
The one I knew as me

Day 32: Litterary Cutter
With my pen I puncture my palm
And let the letters leak
The alphabet in drops of blood
Creates chromosome calligraphy
I have a new escape
Sentences replace the hot red streaks
Where once only blood would heal
Now words are my release
But I have no need to bandage
Or stitch with needle and thread
Cause from my literary blood letting
Others are healed by the words that are read
And let the letters leak

Day 31: I Move
I slide
Through every day and night
Make tracks like railroad spikes
Make trails like lit street lights
I move
Like no one else can do
Make clean sweeps like brooms
Exhausted like car fumes
Through every day and night
Make tracks like railroad spikes
Make trails like lit street lights
I move
Like no one else can do
Make clean sweeps like brooms
Exhausted like car fumes

Day 30: Slipping Into Insanity
Restlessness wrestles with the health of my mental state
Myself and 2 reflections wonder why my reality is fractured
While ignoring the spider webs in the mirror
As I try to push myself through to the other side
To change who I see
In to who they could be.
They argue
And with each push another voice
Joins in the cacophony.

Day 29: Take Me Away
It sucks when something you base your happiness on is destroyed in front of your eyes...... i could really use a cigarette.....
Meet me somewhere I can touch your face
And know that something's real
Let me know that my emotions
Are just something I feel
Maybe we could run away
And find a safer home
Maybe we could wrap ourselves
In lines from favorite poems
Maybe we could dress ourselves
In triumphs of our past
And maybe we could sign our love
On heartbreak's neon cast
And one day we could just pretend
That none of this is true
And maybe I could plug the hole
That life has left in you
And maybe you could fill me too
And hold me by the hand
And maybe we could start our lives
Like we've been born again
But day dreams lead to
Night time screams
Buried deep in
Quilts and sheets
Because our hopes
Are shattered
Incomplete
And so we stray
Numb day to day
And pray we're taken
Somewhere
Somehow
Far
Far away
Meet me somewhere I can touch your face
And know that something's real
Let me know that my emotions
Are just something I feel
Maybe we could run away

Day 28: Drinking and Rhyming
Slipping into sepia tones
As rods are slowly replaced with cones
blindness causing mindless fascination with the unknown
I stand astride a great colossus
Across a shore no one can top this
Breath of greatness which with birds could have flown
And so i stand amidst the land
With ancient scrolls held in my hands
And keep my feelings far from their mental home
And dictate orders with dying breath
As each command keeps strength in check
And yet i become slowly entombed in this poem
Sorry but i'm a bit drunk so this is what i could come up with.

Day 27: Glad To Be Near You
I'm glad I could be the middle man
The piece of string between tin cans
Getting your messages from A to B
I'm glad I could be the rubber cleat
The grip connecting earth and feet
So you could run sure footedly
I'm glad I could be the vaccination
The virus bred for decimation
So you wouldn't get sick with the flu
I'm glad I could lend a hand
Though I was just a pawn in your plan
It was worth it just to be near you
The piece of string between tin cans
Getting your messages from A to B
I'm glad I could be the rubber cleat
The grip connecting earth and feet
So you could run sure footedly

Day 26: Haikus 1
I left my real poem on my work computer, so here is a haiku i came up with about 30 days ago.
Haiku's are stupid
Just as the poems begin
Boom! It's all over.
and because 1 haiku seems like a cop out, here is another I wrote in my poetry class.
Tree branch with red buds,
Why do you shake? Is it from
Holding back the Spring?

Day 25: Running From Skin
So I saw New Moon with my wife and some people from her work today, and I am pretty certain that people are divided into two groups: People would prefer to be vampires, and people who would prefer to be werewolves. Kinda like cat and dog people, but it really seems to boil down to people who would rather live with nature or be masters over it. Vampire sympathizers prefer society, structure, a separation from those feral werewolves who live in the forest and when they are in human form they tend to live simpler lives off the land. I'm a werewolf supporter.
Freedom from Skin
There was a boy who felt trapped
By the weight of his own skin
Feeling there was more
Feeling torn by the war within
Emotions would swing
With the wind like a kite
Unable to restrain
Anger flashes hot white
And so he would run
Like the world wouldn't end
Hoping he'd run fast enough
To leave behind his skin
And so one day he ran
Farther than he had before
And he ran through the pain
That ripped apart his core
And he ran faster than his feet
And he ran faster than his chest
And he ran faster than his face
And he ran faster than his breath
And when he looked over his shoulder
He saw his empty shell
And realized with his last few steps
He'd released himself
He ran on all fours
And he howled as he sped
A bone shivering song of power
And was never heard from again
Freedom from Skin
There was a boy who felt trapped
By the weight of his own skin

Day 24: I Can't Laugh Anymore
We finally got cable three days ago. I love watching soccer with my wife, and keeping up with the mentalist, but I loathe commercials more than almost anything. Not because they interrupt my show, but because they lie over and over attempting to tell you that you will be happy only if you buy (enter their product here). It makes me disgusted. So here's a poem about it.
Selling Happiness
I sat in front of the TV
Almost catatonic
At the first commercial I woke up
And realized I wasn’t happy
Now I’d been laughing for the last ten minutes
As a bumbling husband
Got himself into some generic trouble with his wife
I thought the laughter
Was a textbook symptom of happiness
But evidently it was lackluster laughter.
A sham.
Empty.
I was empty.
And these white strips
Would be what made me complete
My word would be filled
With smiles
Dancing
And slumber parties!
Or would it be
The rice crispy treats
That reconnected me with relatives?
All that marshmallow goodness
Would plug up the festering hole
Caused by all the hateful words spit at the last thanksgiving dinner.
Wait,
Next commercial tells me everything I knew was wrong
Really anything I buy at walmart
Will make my grandpa love me!
I guess I’m not happy.
Now the show’s back on
But I can’t seem to laugh anymore.

Day 23 bonus: May I Join The Dance?
Here's a second post for day 23! WRITE ONE GET ONE FREE!
Standing on the edge of a marsh
I don't know how I got here
But I know I don't want to go back.
The reeds sway hypnotically
A morphing shroud
A feeling of another reality.
Maybe if I could step through it
This world would fade away
I could get lost
The wind gently nudges me closer.
Maybe the reeds would let me join them
And sway in the wind
Maybe....

Day 23: Bridged Reality
Hey all, I'm posting Day 23 a bit early, but i want to give credit to my friend Bailey. While facebook stalking I saw that she is having an exhibit, or whatever brilliant photographers have, to show case their stuff. I checked out her site and was inspired by the opening slide show so I decided to write to it and here's what I got. The poem makes a bit more sense if you watch the slide show.
So here's the link to the website. You should really check it out.
http://www.bridgedreality.com/
BRIDGED REALITY
I see a lily crying
I see a tree capturing frozen sun
I see grizzlies dancing
I see a honey bee feast for one
I see a lighthouse in a landlocked city
I see a chalk white palace on a lake of glass
I see a serpent of ice and metal
I see a grasshopper on his level in his world
I see a royal estate with a gangsta lean
I see through the eyes of a squirrel given a second chance
I see a herring fresh from it's morning bath
I see a crocodile's scowl
I see into infinity and it intimidates me
I see orchids in their finest gowns
I see what I see what I see repetitiously
I see all of this in a Bridged Reality
So here's the link to the website. You should really check it out.

Day 22: Let The Flowers Crack The Concrete
Let the flowers crack the concrete
Creating fractured fractals in the street
A mathematical maelstrom
Dividing beauty by defeat
The sum of the parts
Is larger than the holes
Where the flower beds bloomed
Uprooting street light poles
Colors defibrillate long dead cones
Atrophied by the overuse of rods
In this rebirth of earth
There's no dirt, only sod
There's no religion, only God
There's no chains, only links
There's no locks, only keys
There's no bars, only drinks
There's no crashing except from waves
There's no honking except from geese
There's no screaming except from gulls
There's no beatings except from wings
So let the flowers crack the concrete
Let the fire hydrants leak
And soon the world we know will whither
And we'll harvest harmony.

Day 21: Egg Rolls!
I WANT FREAKIN EGG ROLLS! And i can't stand the agony of waiting for them to come out of the oven..... so here is the direct result of my agony
EGG ROLLS!
Delicious little logs of pure taste
Crispy shells, delicate as frost
Savory sausage spicy and juicy
Crunchy cole slaw
Acting like coffee straws
As it mixes the fiesta of flavors
To top it off drape the flavorful dynamite
In an animal free duck sauce
And you will understand
Why I think the government should forget H1N1
And concentrate on what's important
Time machines
Because I can't stand the 30 minutes
Floating in flavor limbo
And my wife won't let me pick at it.....
Out of a primal necessity for sustenance
A coupe may rise and rescue
The captured comrades roasting at a sweltering
350 degrees
they'll never talk
But they weren't meant to
They were made to keep you from talking
From saying anything other than
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Day 20: The Giant Ape vs. The Golden Goat
Ok so this one is kind of cool. It's really fun to read aloud, like the literary equivalent of maraca music
THE GIANT APE VS. THE GOLDEN GOAT
Twitter pitter patter ever fatter grows the golden goat
Bleating on the freezing evening steaming causing seething smoke
Screaming sickening obscene things flinging frosty gilded glares
Feeding on the teaming fleeing watching with a vacant stare
Astounding primate pounding rings resounding quaking humble homes
As a dashing furry flashing quickly rounds the rubbled roads
Fighting scratching biting each one vying trying to control
Butting punching cutting bone break crunching strangle holds on throats
Falling barely brawling breathing crawling badly bent in two
Finally the fighting ceased finishing the furious feud

Day 19: Cellophane Man
I don’t know if I can take anymore
I’m chompin at the bit
Waitin for my time to come
But it isn’t comin quick
Shit I’m startin to loose my sanity
Every word in my vocabulary
Slowly replaced with profanity
Screamin out as loud as I can
Middle fingers flyin high
In my right and left hands
And I stand like a dam
About to collapse
The strain of holding water
Bout to make my back snap
Into two no amount of glue
Will ever mend again
The broken heart the broken will
The shell of skin on this skeleton
Stretched paper thin
Milky white
Thin enough
to let in light
But not enough to show just who I am
So roll me into sheets
As thin as you can
I’m whoever you want me to be
I’m the cellophane man
I’m chompin at the bit
Waitin for my time to come

Day 18: Do You Know What The Color Of Hope Is?
Do you know what the color of hope is?
I can tell you what it's not.
It's not the dirty gray
Of the everyday city block
It's not the craggy white
The peaks of litter on the streets
It's not the burnt orange rust
On deserted playground swings
It's not the pale gold
Of post its with endless to dos
It's not the blurred black ink
Of prison yard tattoos
It's not the luminous shock of red
Of endless tail lights up ahead
It's not the murky amber hue
Of the six packs cashed just before bed
It's not the puffy purple bags
Of eyes in need of sleep
It's not the sickly green
Of stack of fives and tens and twenties
I'd tell you what color hope was
But I honestly don't know
Hope has left this place without a trace
Many years ago...
I can tell you what it's not.

Day 17: Pennyless
I sat down with only the first two lines of this in my head, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
PENNYLESS
I am penyless
With a heart full of gold
Rock solid soul
That won't be sold
I got holes in my shoes
From places I've been
Riches to rags
Been happy ever since
Nonsense can sense
Every ounce of cents
And grows and feeds
Until it's all been spent
And the question that's asked
Is where did it go
Was it squandered on trash
Or was it meant for more
Every penny that i'm given
Is a penny I don't own
So I put the penny down
On helping someone grow
I don't need my pennies
I shine with out the copper
I'm never without happiness
With joy like a gobstopper
Neverending never ceasing
Only increasing as it's spent
Empty pockets helping hands
Pennyless, but heaven cent.

Day 16: Wondering If Life Holds Anything More
I've lost focus
Finding solace in the hopeless
Dirty soapless
Unable to unyoke this
Chain around my neck
Worry runs unchecked
But I'm collared to the grindstone
So I follow all the steps
I've stepped before
Making rings in the dirt floor
Wondering if this life
Holds anything more
Wondering if this life
Holds anything more
Finding solace in the hopeless
Dirty soapless
Unable to unyoke this
Chain around my neck
Worry runs unchecked
But I'm collared to the grindstone

Day 15: You Said
You said sit
and so I sat
Until the weeds overgrew
The place I was at
You said jump
So I jumped high
As my legs would take me
And I jumped through the night
You said run
So I ran like the wind
And I never slowed down
As my feet lost skin
You said swim
So I dove head first
And I swam across the seas
Till dying of thirst
You said drink
So I drank deep
Until I couldn't hold more
And I sprang a leak
And you said love
So I loved with abandon
And in following you
I helped heal the planet
and so I sat
Until the weeds overgrew
The place I was at
You said jump
So I jumped high
As my legs would take me
And I jumped through the night
You said run

Day 14: Lead Me On
When I'm lost and confused
And my world spins around
When I can't make sense of up or down
When everything permanent seems to be gone
Lead me on
When I'm finally settled
In a place I call home
When I'm comfortable and able to stand on my own
When every word spoken is sung in song
Lead me on
When I'm just too spent
To take another step
When my heart has atrophied inside of my chest
When all of my strength has been overdrawn
Lead me on
And my world spins around
When I can't make sense of up or down
When everything permanent seems to be gone
Lead me on
When I'm finally settled
In a place I call home
When I'm comfortable and able to stand on my own

Day 13: The Flesh of My Tongue
Sick again today so i'm pulling something I wrote a month ago....
The flesh of my tongue
Is the skin of a drum
I exhale beats like
Barum pumpum pum
I exhale beats like
Barum pumpum pum
When my heart beats fast
You move your feet son!
The flesh of my tongue
is the skin of a drum
I exhale beats like
Bumbum
Bumbum
I exhale beats like
Bumbum
Bumbum
When my heart beats slow
Pure meditation
The flesh of my tongue
is the skin of a drum
I exhale beats like
Boom boom pow
Boom boom pow
I exhale beats like
Boom boom pow
I sold my heart
For fast cash now!
The flesh of my tongue
Is the skin of a drum
But the soul sold out
No rhythm comes
The soul sold out
This drum is done.
The flesh of my tongue
Is the skin of a drum
I exhale beats like
Barum pumpum pum
I exhale beats like
Barum pumpum pum
When my heart beats fast
You move your feet son!
The flesh of my tongue
is the skin of a drum
I exhale beats like
Bumbum
Bumbum
I exhale beats like
Bumbum
Bumbum
When my heart beats slow
Pure meditation
The flesh of my tongue
is the skin of a drum
I exhale beats like
Boom boom pow
Boom boom pow
I exhale beats like
Boom boom pow
I sold my heart
For fast cash now!
The flesh of my tongue
Is the skin of a drum
But the soul sold out
No rhythm comes
The soul sold out
This drum is done.

Day 12: Stage Fright
STAGE FRIGHT
Illuminated
Suspended by photons in an energy maelstrom
Bombarded over every inch
As each light particle bounces
It takes a piece of me
As famished eyes suck in these fractured fragments of me
I freeze like I sat in a tank of liquid nitrogen
A cool 98.6 to absolute 0 in 1 second flat
12 down, 353 to go......

Day 11: You'll Never Be Alone Again
I’m here to heal you
To set you free again
Let me repair all those years
When hurt found a home
You were a slave to your sin
It was all that you’d known
Hold on tight
I’ve got big plans for you
I’ll make sure
To see you through
Wipe your tears
Hold on friend
Follow me home
You’ll never be alone again
It will be all right
It will be just fine
There’s nothing to fear
Because you’re mine
I’ll never let you down
I’ll never let you go
I’ve come to take you home
You’ll never be alone
Again
To set you free again
Let me repair all those years
When hurt found a home
You were a slave to your sin
It was all that you’d known
Hold on tight
I’ve got big plans for you
I’ll make sure

Day 10: Hang my Head
And I will hang my head
Let the sadness seep
Quiver as the slivers spit
From your lips puncture me.
And I will fall on my knees
Begging you to cease
But still you lash your tongue and smash
What will is left in me
And I will fall at your feet
Fighting just to breathe
You turn away as if to say
You mean nothing to me
Writtin to "I will hang my head low" by the Decemberists
Let the sadness seep
Quiver as the slivers spit
From your lips puncture me.
And I will fall on my knees
Begging you to cease
But still you lash your tongue and smash
What will is left in me
And I will fall at your feet
Fighting just to breathe
You turn away as if to say
You mean nothing to me

Day 9: I walked
I stood on the edge of a beach
And stared into the sea
As the waves beat a rythm
And the gulls began to sing
"This is a nice place
But i bet there's more to see." I thought
So I walked
I sat upon some rocks
That had withstood the tide
And as each wave slapped each rock face
They didn't blink an eye
"I don't want to get caught up
In this rock and ocean fight." I thought
So I walked
I came across a tidal pool
Full of ocean life
Anemones, crabs, and fish
A most enchanting sight
"This truly is amazing
I wonder what else I'll find." I thought
So I walked
I came across a set of stairs
That traveled from the shore
Back up into the world I left
Full of cars and stores
"I don't like this world of greed
I can't relate anymore." I laughed
So I walked back.
And stared into the sea
As the waves beat a rythm
And the gulls began to sing
"This is a nice place
But i bet there's more to see." I thought
So I walked
I sat upon some rocks
That had withstood the tide

Day 8: Fly Fly Bullet
Sorry, a day late because i was violently sick again.
Point. Click. Boom.
And so begins the ride
Spin Spin Spin
As you rush to snuff a life
Fly fly bullet
Fly into the night
Wherever it is you go
There someone will die
Point. Click. Boom.
And so begins the ride
Spin Spin Spin
As you rush to snuff a life
Fly fly bullet
Fly into the night
Wherever it is you go
There someone will die

Day 7: Something's Missing
This poem was written while watching the movie "Australia"
Something is missing....
Do you feel it?
Seperation.
Do you feel the absence of the sand between your toes?
Of the mud sucking at your soles?
Do you sense the loss of laughter caused by the grass tickling your instep?
Do you smell it?
Sterilization.
Can you remember campfires late into the night?
The rush of pine needles in spring?
The cathartic scent after the rain?
Do you see it?
Tunnel vision.
Have you seen the sky lit up by the stars?
The dance of the flame?
The dew on the leaves?
Do you hear it?
Mechanical hum.
Can you recall the sound of silence?
Can you sing the song of the wind in the forest?
Or play the beat of the waves lapping the shore?
Something is missing...
Something is missing....
Do you feel it?
Seperation.
Do you feel the absence of the sand between your toes?

Day 5: Riot Control
It's been too long
Locked in the cage
Pacing like a tiger
Treated like a slave
Little left to lose
A whole lot more to gain
Late at night when the guard drifts off
The tiger slays. Escapes.
Drowning until
Grab the shark by the gills
Shoot to kill
Drink the blood till you've more than had your fill
Fight the light
Curse the dark
Flash. Ignite
You are the spark
Oil rag fire
Gas can of desire
Throw it from the rooftops
Watch how a broken heart drops
Time stops
Frozen clocks
Brandished glocks
Fighting cocks
This is a revolution
We're not gonna stop
Cause there ain't no riot
Like when shots get fired
And when shots get fired it don't stop
Jump off
Flames of fury
White hot
Hang the Jury
Knees drop
Never apologized
When you had the time
And now your time is up
This is a revolution
We're not gonna stop
Cause there ain't no riot
Like when shots get fired
And when shots get fired it don't stop.
This is a revolution
And we're not gonna stop
Cause there ain't no riot
Like when shots get fired
And when shots get fired it don't stop
Drop.

Day 4: 20 Questions
So today I found a piece of paper that i wrote a poem on sometime in highschool. It's incredibly emo, but i like the feeling of reading it through.
20 Questions
When I get on my knees
Every night before bed
I get the impression
God missed what I said
Words of pain and confusion
Doubts and dread
So I stopped Praying
Playing 20 questions instead
One. What’s the deal?
Two. Where did you go?
Three. Why do I feel so cold and alone?
Four. Is this all part of some master plan?
Five. When will I ever feel whole again?
By now it’s shouts
That spill out from my mouth
As the anger rises
And the heart starts to pound
Six. How can I believe in the things that you said?
Seven. You got a reason I shouldn’t wish I was dead?
Eight. What is my purpose?
Nine. Where do I go?
I want to believe but my faith has run low.
Ten. Why can’t you prove that you really exist?
Eleven. How do I deal with the doubts on my lips?
Twelve. Is this a test?
Thirteen. Some kind of sick joke?
Fourteen. How do I keep from losing all hope?
Fifteen. Why do I cry myself to sleep every night?
Sixteen. Am I really that insignificant when viewed through your eyes?
Seventeen. How can I continue when the race is so long?
Eighteen. Where do I find the strength to be strong?
Nineteen. Have you heard what I said?
I scream through the tears
….where are you…..?
He responds, “I’m right here”

Day 3: Mad Lib Lymeric
A mad lib style lymeric. I asked my wife for a bunch of words. Here's what she came up with:
Taj Mahal
Deep
Infinite
Complete
Beef Sock (name)
riding
hitting
cockatoo
thanks corbie......
So this is the mad lymeric
There once was a man named Beef Sock
Who was the talk of the town with his pink cock-
atoo named Stu
Who was boorish and rude
Cause he was different than the rest of the flock
One day in the Taj Mahal
While walking around smoking menthals
The cockatoo though deep
On infinite mysteries
But his small mind kept hitting a wall
Once the cockatoos life was complete
He fell back and threw up his feet
His pink body turned blue
And he smelled a deal too
And became for the maggots a feast
.....you can blame her for the word bank.

Day 2: God's Anthem
Forests full of supple pines
Bow on bended knee
As blood red leaves fall from trees
In the middle of the spring
Granite rocks learn to talk
And sing sonorous tones
As babbling brooks and waterfalls
Recite unending pomes
Fields of flowers part their petals
Painting the landscape
And fireflies fill up the skies
With a dazzling display
And all creation sings as oneThe earth, the moon, the skies, the sun
At last let loose, their time has come
To sing forever God's anthem

Day 1: Starting Off
Here we go. One poem a day. Some days when i don't have anything good, i'll dig into my hard drive and find something i wrote a while ago. Everything is written by me unless i make it very clear that i'm quoting someone else. Lets start simple.
There is nothing worth waiting for
Waiting implies what is now is not good
What was is not worth reusing
And what is to come is all that is.
But when then becomes now
Then all that is, is not good.
Live forever now.
There is nothing worth waiting for
Waiting implies what is now is not good
What was is not worth reusing
And what is to come is all that is.
But when then becomes now
Then all that is, is not good.
Live forever now.
