Day 95: Revenge And Retribution

Revenge and Retribution
Go back from whence you came
Leave the lost boys in their circles
Playing imaginary games
Marching into battle
Family crests in finger paint
Pots and pans don dirty heads
As the warriors save the day
But once the battles done
Everyone is safe
They go back to being friends
And start another game
No one ever dies
No one ever hates
Everything is better
There's never any pain

Day 94: Sorry I'm Late but I was Drunk Last Night

The title says it all......

Sorry I'm late
But I was drunk last night
Went out to the bars
And started a fight
With a circus clown and an acrobat
Who were leering at my wife
And the bouncers stepped in
To break up the fight

I don't remember much after
It's all a black blur
But I think I saw a dog
Wearing shiny spurs
I can't be quite certain
And I'm not completely sure
But I might have tried to ride him
Or it might have been reversed

Day 93: Absurdity

An exercise in absurdity
A coat and gloves that don't fit me
A sip of the feral beast that bit me
And I'm warm but only cause I trick me
One day I'll wake It'll all be real
All of the fake falls like a banana peel
And I feel the life inside me
I feel it's time to fly free
And I spread my wings
Leaving behind things
Like logic and science that bind me

Day 92: Concrete Jungle

Middle of the day
The buildings block out the sun
Standing straight and tall

Speeding feral beasts
Stalking prey down asphalt streets
Scream as they pass by

Day 91: Jackolantern

I had this sitting around and couldn't finish it. Too sick feeling to try to write the second NYC poem so that will come tomorrow. In the mean time.....

Jackolantern

Fill me
Drain me
Bleach me inside out
With the lye in your eyes
Tangle with my heartstrings
Until they can't create a chord
Carve me like a pumpkin
Untill I smile like you want
Until I'm what you want

Day 90: Long Island

Hey, sorry this is late. Was working in NYC last night and took in the sites of the city. I had an idea for what I wanted to write, but by the time I got to my hotel room, I wasn't awake enough to really form a thought so this (yesterdays) poem and today's will try to capture the feeling.

Long Island

One day a man happened onto a hill
He surveyed the pasture below
The Sky, The Sun were vast and grand
And here he built his home

A friend of his paid a visit
To this new found land
And with one glimpse his mind was set
And started a city plan

He sent the word far and wide
And people from miles around
Came to this beautiful land
And soon they formed a town

They shared the Sun, The Sky, The Clouds
With everyone who moved in
But with each home that was raised
Each got a smaller portion

Soon the city sprawled
For miles in every way
The people lived in buildings
That seemed to tickle space

One day a man stopped
Before starting his day
And with a gasp, he realized
The Sun and Sky had no space

Day 88: How many lives a day?

How many lives have I lived today?
More than is good for my sanity.

I've been depressed
Full of regrets
Lost in the bliss
Found in the middle of sex

I've felt over whelmed
Under whelmed too
I've felt my head in a fog
Lost and confused

I've seen red in my rage
Hypertensive, terrified
Shaking uncontrollably
With crazy in my eyes

I've lived so many lives just in a day
But it always ends the same way
I get to start again with sleep.

Day 87: A Poem a Day

My last poem sucked
You can't deny it
But that's the risk you take
When you approach a monumental task
A draining experience
An interruption of life lived
An escape from anxiety, depression, and ulcers
Like a sprinkler system
I spit out words in quickly changing patterns
Hoping that some hit the mark
And feed the seeds and roots and leaves
The souls of those who drink them in
But unavoidably
They'll soak cars and walkers
Preventing them from ever wanting to return
To take in the scenery
But maybe the garden will be enough to bring them back
Sometimes you have to get wet
To drink deep....

Day 86: walking away

I'm ready to walk away

I know that things will work out for me

Strapped with that confidence

You can't twist my arm

You can't bluff away someone

With nothing to lose

And you're about to lose the farm

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Day 85: Humanticide

Slit my wrists with your lists
Of everything that I'm not
Watch humanity pour forth
From the wounds, red hot
Watch insecurities fall
To the floor forming pools
Watch the fear fill my eyes
With weaknesses exposed

Day 84: Inspiration

Inspiration...
I'd been searching for you so long
I read the works of my heroes
Saul Williams, Shel Silverstien
Cussler, Kippling, Carol,Poe,
I listened to my miracle workers
Imogen, Jay Z, Cudi, Barber,
Eminem, Common, Slug, Illogic,
Tiesto, Van Dyke, DeadMau5, Sean Paul,
Needtobreathe,P.O.S., Burial
I watched every twilight zone
Sterling ever wrote
Waiting patiently for you
To show me where to go
And I waited and I waited and I waited
Then sitting in my car
Stopped at a traffic light
You whispered through a cloud
Shaped sort of like a duck with one leg
And I couldn't help but laugh....

Day 91: Jackolantern

I had this sitting around and couldn't finish it. Too sick feeling to try to write the second NYC poem so that will come tomorrow. In the mean time.....

Jackolantern

Fill me
Drain me
Bleach me inside out
With the lye in your eyes
Tangle with my heartstrings
Until they can't create a chord
Carve me like a pumpkin
Untill I smile like you want
Until I'm what you want

Day 83: Until My Eyes Were Red, Until My Cheeks Were Blue

When I was a child
And I needed food
I had no way to help myself
So my face would screw
As I cried until my eyes were red
Until my cheeks were blue

When I grew a bit
And had a friend or two
They picked on me and called me names
I thought could not be true
And I cried until my eyes were red
Until my cheeks were blue

Puberty hit me quickly
And I didn't have a clue
That I could be so broken down
By the women I gave my heart to
And I cried until my eyes were red
Until my cheeks were blue

When I was full grown
And seen many an autumns hue
My parents passed away one day
Seemingly out of the blue
And I cried until my eyes were red
Until my cheeks were blue

I lay upon my bed one night
My time had come I knew
And with a smile on my face
I passed serenely through
And there was no need to cry
I'd found my wings and flew.

Day 82: Searching for my home

So managing this blog today I found out I had mis-numbered my days since like 34 or something. Thought I'd mention it, especially since I wrote something different for day 50 and didn't realize it was day 51 which makes it stupid now that it say 51. anyway....

Searching For My Home

I don't hunger
I don't thirst
No, I ache all over
From the exertion of my soul
Reaching for Jehovah
Wishing it was finally free
Of this Human skin
Aching from within
With the burdens of my sin
So won't you come and touch me
Soothe my aching bones
Hold me tight against your chest
I'm tired of being alone
I never live comfortable
'Cause I'm never quite home
From birth to death
Seemingly endless
Searching for my home

Day 81: Sunrise Sunset

Sunrise Sunset

Sunrise Sunset
The Earth sees stars from its constant pirouette
They keep on running like the world never ends
'Cause the world is endless for them

Sunrise Sunset
The Earth keeps spinning and it hasn't quit yet
It twists and it turns attempting to view
Each bloom of the Sun and the Moon

Sunrise Sunset
Life goes on and it never suspects
That the reason for the season and each passing day
Is the Heavens and Earth's love displayed

Day 80: Double Duty

I like how this poem tries to use homonyms and puns.... But i most definitely don't expect anyone else to like it.

DOUBLE DUTY

The masks he wears are wearing thin
They songs he sang were not from hymn
The tales he told were all tail ends
And the friends he made were aliend.

Day 79: Show Me Something Real

Ok back from vacation. I still owe you four poems, but i got some starts in cabo. Even though I lost my wallet and burnt to a lobster red...

Show Me Something Real

Show me something real
Something I can feel
Show me earth that crumbles
Between my toes and beneath my heal

Show me something raw
Something full of flaws
Show me someone with convictions
To stand back up after they fall

Show me something true
Something within you
Show me light that in the darkest night
Guide's you right on through

Show me something dead
Something hallowed
Show me peace will find everyone
If only in the end

Show me something's life
Something full of fight
Show me how the the gift, the curse
Is each soul's given right

Day 78: Swallow your pride

Swallow your pride

He just sits there
Head held in hands
Hasn’t been home in days
The empty shell of a man

Hopin’ that tonight
The only stars that he sees
Are the glitter from the glasses
And the ice from his drinks

Scotch Burboun Rum Whisky
Vodka Gin Gone beyond tipsy
Camel’s, Slims, Luckys, Cools
Marlboros lit up on this bar stool

Drowning in drinks
And suckin’ down smoke
Chokin’ on the joke of
A man without hope

But he won’t make amends
He’d rather run and hide
In the bottom of a bottle
Feelin safe inside

But all he really needs
To recover from the fall
Is to suck down his pride
The toughest pill of all

Jagged on all sides
It slits as it slides
Leaving wounds on the way
To restoring his life

Cause the healing’s in the pain
And there’s no way around
No spoonful of sugar
Helps this medicine go down

Ownin’ up to mistakes
Admitting you were wrong
Realizing your words have weight
And detonate like a bomb

And pride, the very poison
That’d been causing you to die
Becomes the activated charcoal
That’s keepin’ you alive

So fill a shot glass
Make your neck snap
Swallow your pride
To find your way back

The more it’s put off
The more it hurts
Get your life back together
Apologize to her.

-Mike Sanderson

Day 77: We Got A Love Like

We got a love like

Like cupid took super glue
No
Like that naked baby took Epoxy
And stuck your heart to mine

We got a love like

Like someone stuck
Neodymium magnets in our hands
And I just can’t let go of yours
Not that I would ever want to

We got a love like

Like we turned our cell phones into
Time machines, cause we start talking
And the conversation ends when my alarm interrupts it at
6 AM

We got a love like

Like you’re my golf ball;
Like if I take my eyes off of you for one second
I’ll spend the rest of the day lost in the woods
Looking for you (don’t worry I won’t hit you)

We got a love like

Like if I opened every box of Alphabet’s there is
And poured them all out on the kitchen floor
The only letter’s I’d find are
U & I

We got a love like

Like I’m the earth
And you’re the moon
And our love is light
And I get drunk off this moonshine every night

We got a love like

Like you’re my coffee and my shower
Cause without drinking in your beauty and
Bathing in the warmth of your smile
There’s no way I’m going to have a good day

We got a love like

Like Romeo and Juliet would have had
If Juliet hadn’t played dead
And Romeo wasn’t so fond of poison
And they both got serious counseling

We got a love like

Like you’re the beautiful snow white
And while you’re gone I’m so
Grumpy that I get
Sneezy,till the
Doc makes me
Dopey and I get
Sleepy and wake up
Bashful, but
Happy to be your
Prince Charming

We got a love like

Like I can’t explain,
With any of the words
In this dictionary or any other,
How I feel about you

But I can’t say I didn’t try

Day 76: Love Like Spring

Love Like Spring

I love you like a bird call.
Not the empty cries of an owl’s
“hoot hoot”
Not the icy cold “CuCaw!”
Of a jet black raven
Not the rhythmic cadence of
A Toucan
Not the abrasive screeching of
A seagull
No, I love you like the song of
The Robin
“Taweet Taweet”
It sings in short intervals
With the first light of day
It sings to the sun.
A wave of rejoicing
That sweeps across the country
And is renewed every day.

A funeral song,
Not a dirge lamenting winter’s pass,
But rather a song of hope
Like the notes that fill Football Stadiums
During the world cup,
A hope and pride so thick that
It sends shivers down your spine
Yet warms your soul like a
Cup of coffee in the morning
The warning klaxon
Screaming so softly
That winter has stolen it’s last breath
And Spring is here
The snow melts into rivers
Which the brown grass drinks greedily
Sprouting in vibrant shades of green
The world awakens from its slumber
And blooms as if putting on a
Three month long production
With dancing in the wind
And costumes in full bloom
All rejoicing in this new age.

I love you like the song of the Robin
Like the song of Spring.

Day 75: 146

Pulling out a lot of poems i've written in the past. It's vacation.... Hopefully i'll have a lot of new material

146

I’ll never know her name
But I can’t forget that face
Peering from beyond the glass
Little eyes so full of hate
Staring at the men in line
Who were picking one by one
Little girls in dresses red
Hiding from what was to come
But this little one
Her number 146
Wouldn’t watch the tv set
Instead she bit her lip
And stared the old men down
Twice her size 4 times her age
Their twisted minds would fantasize
About the coming rape
And her little sister only 8
Was curled up on the floor
Willing for her heart to stop
So it wouldn’t hurt no more
And then men would slap their wads of cash
In the hand of the slave master
And they’d lead the girl into a room
And against her will undress her

And beat her till she’d stop her screams
Her howls and shrieks of pain
The wolves would have their way, their fill
And leave the poor lamb slain
And they’d make their way back out the door
And next week they’d be back for more
While the little girl back in her cage
Would crumple on the floor
And because she was still new
And not yet broken in
She’d wipe the tears from her eyes
And lift back up her chin
And she’d stare and she’d stare
And she’d hope and she’d wait
For the day that she was rescued
For the day she’d run away
But as the days went by
Her fire began to fade
Her body turning slowly lifeless
Gave up hope of escape
And she still sits in the room
At the wall of glass, transfixed
And every day men have their way
With number 146...

This poem is in regards to the love146 foundation. It's based on a girls life. Check out the website. http://love146.org

Day 74: Give me grace

Give me the shoulders of atlas
So I can hold up this weight
Give me the focus of a Buddhist monk
So I can ignore the pain
Give me the reflexes of a ninja master
So I can dodge what is shot
Give me skin as tough as Kevlar
So I can deflect what I do not

Or Just give me the grace
To give it all up to you
So I won't need these abilities
To get me through

Day 73: Yakuza

YAKUZA

Give me a reason
Or I'll cut you open
I'm in this one hundred ten percent
Tattooed over every inch of my skin
I won't hold back my friend

I've dedicated
Every thing that I am
I'll go down swinging blind with rage
I'll jump at the chance you can't persuade
Me to change my mind again

I'm a yakuza
The outcast of japan
And the ink is the blood that was spilt
I'll bury the sword to the hilt
I'll murder any man

Day 72: Going Insane

So i'm off to vacation. My poems won't be posted every day, but hopefully within two weeks i'll be back at even

I see
The shadows forming right in front of me
But I don't remember when...
I don't remember when.

I fear
The quiet voices I can't help but hear
I can't quiet them
I can't quiet them

Thursday, January 7, 2010

Day 71: Redundant

A candle's shimmer
In a crystal cave
The walls come alive and dance
A needle's dance
In a valley of wax
The soul resounds with the beat
A cardiac beat
In a cavernous chest
The life bursting forth shakes and shimmers

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Day 70: Canvas

I was going to write something really dirty today since it's the 69th day of this blog... but I'm not in the mood.

Canvas

Why write words
On a blank white page?
Why mottle the immaculate surface?

The stains of refrains
The rhythmic glitches
The discolorations of sensations
Written on the pages

Jackson Pollock's paintings
Uncover the same things
Beauty is the chaos
In a perfectly framed system

Day 69: Undead Head

How am i supposed to stay sane......

Brain melt
Pain felt
Little left in the head

Heat burns
From words
Spouted, touted, said

Drip drop
Non stop
I can't find a way

Scamper scurry
Quicker, Hurry
Please plug up the drain

Sitting stone
Lifeless bone
I'm a zombie'd head
And you made me undead

Monday, January 4, 2010

Day 68: Vulnerable

Oh shit they found me!
I can't run
The light floods my vision
Bright as the sun
This is the end
I slipped up big
I rose to the surface
Refusing to stay hid
I thought it'd be ok
The odds said I'd survive
But now that point O two percent
Looks like a one O five
It's certain that they got me
Of that there is no doubt
There's no where left to turn
It's no use to shout
Accept the inevitable?
Or fight it to the death
When both streams lead to the same sea
Neither is really best.

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Day 67: Stating Again

Imagine if we didn't sleep
If we could work the whole night through
We'd never lose our built momentum
There's nothing that we couldn't do

But with all the work we did
We'd accumulate our sins
And soon the weight we be too much
To even try again

Without the chance to sleep
Perhaps the chance to dream
We'd never get the second chance
We all so desperately need.

Day 66: Once Upon A Time

Hey sorry this one is late. Had a friend come up the other day.

Once Upon A Time...

Once upon a time
I knew my way home
But now the well worn path I walked
Has long since overgrown
The checkpoints that were on the way
Are now piles of stone
And I'm left here with my fears
In the darkness all alone

Vulnerable and scared
I curl up and hide my face
Crying for the ghosts to stop
For them to go away
But through the tears the frightening wraiths
Begin to shift and change
Becoming fire flies that blink and buzz
As they light the way.

I sit in a mossy circle
A ring of toadstools under a sky of ink
This is where I need to stay
This is where I need to be
Home is not where I grew up
Where I got my childhood memories
I can't go back but I don't need to
Now that my home's found me.

Day 65: January First

January First

January First
The date of Birth
Of so many
Empty words

Boasting deeds
They can achieve
But people never keep

These words
Released in herds
Together storm the world

But they fall
To the roadside all
Into boxes they all crawl

Along the road
Is where they go
The new place they call home

None cares
To call them theirs
So they lie under the stairs

Soon they die
But no one cries
Because no one realized

What was said
With no intent
Of the lies they fed

To their friends
Without an end
Cause it was just pretend

Let every word
That I birth
Carry with it worth

So no more words Die in Vain
