Day 123: BackPocket

I'm sittin in the back
Of an old cadillac
Sippin straight from the bottle
Of my good friend jack
Like the cockroaches
Hiding under the bed
Hoping to catch some crumbs
Before you step on my head
Maybe like a ball fo lint
Deep in your back pocket
I'm hiding from my crumbling life
Cause I can't find a way to stop it
It's easier to let it slide
When the pain's removed from life
I'm guiding my life trying to hide
From the pain that I feel in the light

Day 122: Remind Me

Wow, Today, I am officially one third of the way done with this project! I'm really surprised I've made it this far. A big thanks to anybody and everybody who reads this.

Remind Me

Lord Remind me
That success isn't measured
In dollars and cents
That those most wealthy
Are those most content
That life is much more
Than credit scores
And that I am a child of yours

Lord Remind me
That those who have achieved
The most success
Are those who's lives
Have left the most people blessed
That those whose love shows
The depths of their souls
Are more valuable than all the world's gold

Day 121: A Summer Night

A Summer Night

Drip drip drop
Watch the hands of the clock
Drip like the dew from the leaves
Of the old oak tree

A smile, a sigh
Dusk is preparing for the coming night
The stars in the sky burn bright
With light for the crickets to play by

A child's thick horse braid
The taste of lemonade
The perfect summer night has started
We reconnect with a life departed

Please feel free
To stop the passing of time with me
To remember by forgetting
What we've spent our lives collecting

Day 120: How to lose a fight

Whip Whip WhipBash
Blinding light flash
I'm falling down again.

Chuckle, insult, laugh
This dude just kicked my ass
For running my mouth again.

Day 119: An Itch

An Itch

An Itch
Trapped within the whitewashed walls
Of a room with only iron barred windows
Mere peepholes act as conduits
To the outside world

I can't scratch it
So it grows
Into a harried, monstrous thing
A far cry from what it once was
A mosquito turned vampire
Screaming for a drop of blood
To quench its long parched tongue
As it watches people walk on by

An idea
An itch
An obsession
A twitch
An uncontrolled intellectual
Spasm that can't be dealt with
Until it's seen its way through

Day 118: We Three Shepards Be

You'll never guess what movie I just watched......

We Three Shepherds Be

Veritas.
My trigger finger
Tickles the belly of philosophers
Coercing morbid laughs
Hammer clacks, cover your ears
The truth is hard to hear.

Aequitas.
They payment we extract
So that our wrath is stayed
Requires that what all men have
Be given to expiate
The sins will bleed away.

Lux.
Our voice our deeds they point
Through translucent wraiths
The philosophers are aimed
You can't outlast your fate
It's time your debt is paid.

We Three Shepherds Be
Protectors of a bastard flock
So fall on bended knee
Repent now or fear the glock

Day 117: Gotta pee

Gotta Pee

I gotta pee gotta pee gotta pee gotta pee
And until I can see that white toilet seat
Nothing is going to get me to speak
Because if I stop I might spring a leak
And you'll have a big mess that you'll be forced to clean
And explaining these things is excruciating
Cause all I can think is that I have to pee
My vision's clouding and I'm getting dizzy
And my bladder is ripping at each of it's seams
And I'm about to pass out someone please rescue me
and whoops.....

never mind.....

Day 116: A New Leaf

Yes, this is kind of sad but the poem is about Nissan's new LEAF, which is an electric car that has about a 100 mi range on a charge, would cost approximately 3 bucks in electricity to recharge, and meet the transportation needs of approximately 70% of Americans. I know I don't drive more than 100 miles in a day. Ironically, earlier today, I watched the documentary, "Who killed the electric car?" which made me sick to my stomach knowing that people were capable of such things. Anyways, diatribe is done, here's the poem.

A New Leaf

Who killed the electric car?
Who drove it to it's grave?
Was it the xenophobic conservatives
Afraid of rapid change?

Was it a superficial demand for style?
And fresh calf skin leather seats?
Was it the fear of emasculation
If it didn't perform the most powerful feats?

Let's not kid ourselves
Or be soft for the sake of appearance
It was not the consumer who wielded the blade
No, it was the car's parents!

The manufacturers sacrificed their children
The bright young electric stars
They sold their organs and drank their blood
So CEOs could buy sports cars.

But the souls of the cars wouldn't die
Their spirits lingered back
In the form of protesters,
Activists, on the attack

And through this bloody mess
After years of dreamless sleep
Nissan stepped up to try again
They turned over a new LEAF

Day 115: Yin and Yang

Angels and Demons
Chastity and semen
Unparalleled patriotism
And serpentine treason

Burning and freezing
Permanence and seasons
"I don't give a fuck"
And passionate people pleasing

Double speak from Janus
Empty praise is slanderous
Systematic self destructive
Chaos like you planned it

Day 114: Stewie Griffin Won't let me Sleep

Sorry this is late. I had this in mind to write last night, but i had my first forty in syracuse and quickly forgot about this.

Stewie Griffin Won't Let Me Sleep

He stands their in the corner
His oblong head cocked to one side
He stares at me unblinkingly
Through wide open bloodshot eyes
It's unnerving to say the least
And I wonder if I'll make it through the night

My wife asks, "what's the matter?"
"Why can't you fall asleep?"
I don't tell her it's because
Stewie Griffin's watching me.
If she could see him too
She would understand it's cause of this demon seed.

Somehow I make it through the night
And the sun shines another morning
And nothing ever happens to me
Regardless of Stewie's warning
I think he's just biding his time
And waiting for his master plan to finally finish forming.

Day 113: I sat in silence

I Sat In Silence

This morning I woke to silence
A pin drop silent morning
A heart beat in my ears type quiet
That would not endure ignoring

The shower woke me up
The heat, the steam, the boom
The droplets crashing sounded like
A waterfall in the room

As I stepped out of the shower
I heard the steam escaping
Thanking me for their release
They waved while dissipating

I dressed and came to sit
At my kitchen table
As my coffee dripped and sang
As loud as it was able

And once the drip was done
I sat with cup in hand
And listened to the silence
And began to understand

The beauty that I miss
As I pollute my space
With mindless noise and careless words
I conjure just to waste

People fear the silence
Because it shouts and screams
Who you really are
The you your friends don't see

The silence spoke to me that morning
And the words that it was saying
Lit me behind eyes
As the dark sky started graying

My facade started falling
Washed from the rains above
When a whisper spoke through the quiet
And told me, "You Are Loved."

Day 112: Warped Perception

I got sucked into watching the top 24 on american idol and I'm just flabbergasted by how everyone who loses thinks the same thing.

Warped Perception

I don't understand
I did everything I could
Why didn't I win?
Why didn't they pick me?
If I try my hardest
I should be chosen.
Above everyone else
Who tried.
They're not me.
I deserve this.
They don't know what they're missing.
I'll show them!
They'll see!
I deserved to be picked!

You and everyone else on American Idol....

Day 111: The Idiot Box

The Idiot Box

I could go take a run
And test who I am physically
I could sit and read a book
And understand who I am intellectually
I could listen to a record
And lose myself sonically
I could write a book or poem
And share myself verbally
I could paint a picture
And display myself chromatically
I could take photographs
And capture my inner self visually
I could invent something
And exercise myself creatively
I could build something
And expand myself handily
I could cook something
And refine myself tastefully
I could learn a new language
And connect with people linguistically
Or I could sit in front of the television
And watch my life slip from my hands
Frantically

Day 110: Letters To My Unborn Child pt 1.

No, She's not pregnant. Just want to make that clear. But hanging out with my 2 year old niece (it was her birthday this weekend!) made me feel pretty paternal.

Letters To My Unborn Child pt. 1

Welcome to the planet
You blessed, wretched creature
Welcome to Weakness, Illness
Disease and Greed
Welcome to Love, Hope
Freedom and Dreams
Welcome to Pain
Welcome to Endurance
Welcome to comfort
And trials that make life worth living

You were given a heart
It was meant to break
But it was also meant to heal
Not quite the same
But more beautiful than before

There are no manuals
No instructions
No black and white
But the story
The creativity
The color
Make this an experience
That will make you thankful
You stuck through those nine cramped months
In your mother's womb

Along the way
There will be signs many will ignore
And there will be signs many will follow
There will be seasoned guides
Who will be willing to lead you
There will be devious crooks
Attempting to deceive you
But you will be responsible
For finding your own way
There is no wrong turn
There is only right and left
It's not about the destination
Everybody gets there
But no one takes the same route
And not everyone takes advantage of the view

People will attempt
To tell you what life is
But in time you will find
The answer in a flower
It will whisper to you
That life is the unraveling
Of everything you thought you knew

Welcome, my child.
Welcome.

Day 109: Why God Is Rules beats God is Love in Nation Wide Taste Tests

Why God Is Rules beats God is Love in Nation Wide Taste Tests

If black and white were
The only colors we had
Who would want to paint?

Day 108: Give In

Sorry its late, in Berea and it always screws things up.

From the vault

Give in

It’s only when you let go that you can have everything
It’s only in the breakdown when you feel most complete
It’s really your beginning when you feel you’re at your end
And it’s only in recovery that you find yourself again
So give in

Day 107: A marathon's not a mile

This race is longer than expected
My wounds are growing septic
The wheezing in my breathing
Is sounding like a broken record
The feeling that I'm freezing
Is becoming more relentless
And I'm reeling as I'm stealing
Each and every passing second

This marathon I'm living
Leaves me with split decisions
I got to make up my messy mind
I don't get any revisions
This self defacing division
Is clouding up my vision
These miles are slow coming
An un-anesthetized incision

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Day 106: It's up to you

It's up to you

The game has begun
The die has been thrown
And it tumbles and tumbles away
Bouncing explosively as corners collide
With the green felt and golden suede
Its out of my hand
And in to yours
Which numbers will make it
When the dance is done
I don't even look
I'm content with where you take it

Day 105: To my Wife

Hey, sorry this is late. Last night was an early valentine's day since, this year, Chinese new year is on February 14th and we'll be in cleveland. Therefore, I wrote a poem, but it was in a card and I had to wait till it was open to wright it.

To My Wife On Our First Married Valentine's Day

Our Love is,
Awkward Hot
Sickeningly Sweet
2 Years old
60 Years young
More than I can handle
More than I could hope for
All that we have and
All that we need.
It's Elegant
Raw
Committed
Powerful
Gentle
Beautiful and
Comfortable.

Day 104: Not All Truth Is Scientific

Not all truth is scientific

The artist paints a page
With broad brush strokes
And fine details
Leaving behind his inner vision
For others to see life new

The writer conjures a story
Words etched with laser precision
Vocal vibration in permanence
Leaving behind his voice
For other to voice the truth

The musician concocts a tune
Pulling sweet taffy notes
Harmonizing drops of honey
Soothing the bitter taste
Of a world ruled by the unjust

Monday, February 8, 2010

Day 103:Wait.

Wait.

Can you wait?
Sit patiently in quiet expectation
Soaking in the moment
Exhaling all the tension?
Sit.
Wait.
It's going to be alright.
So let the worry melt the creases
Carved between your eyes.
Let the shoulders shrugging high
Release their terror hold
Let the spine again recline
Relaxing from it's mold.
Remember to breathe
To remember release
Wait.
Sit.
Exhale all the tension
Soak in the moment
Sit patiently in quiet expectation.
And wait.

Day 102: Freedome But What For?

This is a ...... i forget what they're called but it's a specific type. Villanel maybe? Same thing as "Tygre Tygre Burning Bright"

Freedom; but what for?

Can a story be pulled from the twisted form
Of the soldier who lost the fight?
Freedom, but what for?

Two men in uniform walk up to a door
The woman crumples at their sight.
Can a story be pulled from the twisted form?

No one could give their country more;
For freedom her husband gave his life.
Freedom, but what for?

The casket is lowered to the dirt floor
Draped in stars and stripes.
Can a story be pulled from the twisted form?

The home, a shell of what it was before
Heartbreak’s tears flood each night.
Freedom, but what for?

A widow and now single mother of four
The family’s flame crippled, but “America’s light shines bright.”
Can a story be pulled from the twisted form?
Freedom, but what for?

Day 101: Do You love Me?

Sorry, fell asleep last night before I coudl post it.

Do You Love Me?

Do you love me?
Will you listen to the words I say
And weigh my opinions as heavily as your own?

Do you love me?
Will you notice when I'm hurt
Strung out and empty of all hope?

Do you love me?
Will you notice the warning signs
That signal my immanent emotional shutdown?

Do you love me?
Will you touch me
To let me know that I exist?

Do you love me?
Do you?
yes
You do

Day 100: Never Let Go

Wow!

100 DAYS!!!

Honestly I thought I'd be all out of ideas by day.....15 but here I am, over a quarter of the way through with this project and I have to say I am pleased with the results. Here's hoping the next 100 are just as imaginative.

Never Let Go

I burnt too many bridges
I built too many islands
I missed too many moments
By closing both my eyelids
I bit too many bites
Of hand made humble pie
I bore the grunt of hundreds
Of contemptuous judging eyes
But I never let go.

I slipped down many slopes
That I never could quite climb
I built too many castles
On the shifting sands of time
I flipped too many birds
I crossed too many lines
I forgot too many land marks
Misread too many signs
But I never let go.

I loved too many women
Who amassed too many hearts
I lost too many races
With myriad of false starts
I lived too many lives
And wore too many masks
But through it all there is only
One thing that I ask
Never let go.

Day 99: Half Truths

Half truths

Concrete science, cold hard facts
Make megaliths overshadowing faith
When life won't follow equations
Even an atheist will pray

From silver tongues, behind evil eyes
Half truths weave complex inlays
Even the devil can cite Scripture
If it helps him get his way

Day 98: Why I Surf (or how I imagine it would be)

Let me get this straight. I don't surf. I have, however, seen some pretty amazing pictures of water tubes where the collapsing wave leaves a small recess that people surf through. I imagine this must be what it's like for someone to surf their first tube.

Why I surf

The sapphire surface trembles
Barely containing itself
Waiting to explode
The tension is unbearable
But there!
The swell has begun
Climaxing
Releasing itself at the point of no return
The landscape twists
The sapphire blue
Becomes a blazing celestial white
The very laws of nature are usurped
And all order becomes frantic
Blissful chaos.
This is where my soul
Leaves this plane
And finds its completion
In the tube.

Day 97: The Night Before

I've been on this real Ambient groove kick lately, listening to Carbon Based Lifeforms, Solar Fields, and my new favorite Hol Baumann. This was written to his song Endless Park on the Album "Human". Give it a listen : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYi-DTwACjk

The Night Before They Came For Me

Breath heavy
Brow sweaty
Chest heaving
Fighting just to breathe

Knuckles white
Shoulders tight
Hands shaking
Nearly ripping at the seams

Stomach turning
Eyeballs burning
Grimacing
Clenching tight the teeth

Day retreating
Hours fleeting
Reckoning
The bells toll for me

Time has come
To come undone
But I'm fighting
Fighting to break free

Monday, February 1, 2010

Day 96: Ambience

Unable to open my eyes
I drift in a sub conscious state
Tendrils of wispy smoke
Move and bend their shapes
Falling but in place
I drift in and out of space

Relaxing my hand
I let it move free
As it floats in the air
Controlled by jet streams
My head supported barely
An Autumn leaf on a tree

A lullaby is sung
From deep inside the plumes
Muffled sonorous notes
A mother's heartbeat in the womb
A dreamy sleepy tune
An undisturbed ethereal cocoon.
